Improvements to the track - Wednesday, September 26, 2007

The Business Banking team from Lloyds TSB, Witney has transformed the track leading to our carpark.

Under their "Bank an Hour" community scheme they pledged to mend the track and clear the verges. They turned to  bank customer Alan Townsend of Townsend & Rideout for some free advice, materials and labour. Alan in turn encouraged local companies AK Timms & Sons; Electrical Hire & SalesSmiths of Bletchington and B&E Transport to offer free materials, plant hire and transport.

In the first phase the potholes were filled; surface levelled and drainage gulleys cut. The project was completed on Friday October 12th when 10 bank staff led by Andrew Kirk spent the day spreading shingle, cutting back the overgrown verges and shifting barrows of weeds.

RDA National News

Approximately 5,000 riders took part in the World's Biggest Riding Lesson to officially launch RDA's 40th Anniversary on the 30th September 2009. At 200 centres in the UK and across the world, both disabled and able-bodied riders united in support of the charity.

HRH Princess Royal opened the event at Chigwell Group, praising the commitment, enthusiasm and dedication of volunteers in a heartfelt speech dedicated to everyone at RDA and across the globe. The Princess then flew by helicopter to Anglesey to visit the Ynys Mon (Anglesey) Group on the same day.

Several supporters joined in the celebrations. Taking riding lessons at Hunts Farm Group in Worcester were staff from Countrywide, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of products and advice to the rural community and official sponsors of the World’s Biggest Riding Lesson. Tony Christie, famous for his hit single “Is this the way to Amarillo”, and Paralympic Star Ricky Balshaw joined in at Gartmore Riding Centre in Staffordshire where they met 100 riders who participated in the event. They were joined by representatives from several organisations including MENCAP, Walsall disability services, British Horse Society and UK animal feed specialists, Dodson and Horrell.

Chief Executive of RDA, Ed Bracher who visited Groups and met with several riders and volunteers on the day commented "We are very grateful to all our volunteers, riders and supporters for making this a very successful day. We achieved 5,000 rides, drives and vaults in at least 200 venues and the Groups I visited and spoke to were very enthusiastic and had a great time. We hope to repeat this success and get 10,000 people riding next year”
